Gagged Girls is a project designed to capture the emotions, feelings, and expressions of women who are gagged. When one form of expression, such as speech, is removed, other forms take over and reveal something deeper about the person inside. The end goal is to produce images which take the art of portraiture and use it to reflect on a particular aspect of bondage and fetish culture. Gags represent a fetish that embodies a fundamental contradiction, as both a symbol of freedom and restriction, these portraits reveal in the subjects communication that is both absent and beyond words.
When one form of expression is muted, other forms emerge. It is my hope that by removing words, we can see a different side of each of these women and a deeper view of who they are.
